origin story
Where 暖暖 came from.
Yumi's story starts with two dogs who belonged to a close group of friends from high school. When they had puppies, Yumi was the first born, and the only girl in the litter.
Back then I decided to bring her home. She's been by my side ever since — through cities, apartments, and every chapter of life in between. I'd helped take care of her parents too, so Yumi isn't just a pet; she's family across generations.
Her name 暖暖 (Nuannuan) means "warmth." She has always lived up to it.
First born, only female — she came home with me, and never really left.

who she is
Personality & soul.
Very clingy, quiet, well-behaved. She'll be curious and nosy in a new place — sniffing everything, watching everyone. When she wants something, she whimpers. When she's happy, she stays close.
− Being scolded for accidents (medical, not behavioral)
− Crowds of strangers approaching fast
medical profile
Health & care.
Yumi is a senior dog managing several conditions — all stable and monitored. None of them define her. She's still sharp, still hungry, still whimpering for the dog park every morning.
Chronic Kidney Disease
IRIS Stage 1, diagnosed March 2026 following an acute kidney injury (December 2025, resolved). All values — creatinine, BUN, SDMA, phosphorus, UPC — within normal range. Next panel due June 2026. Good prognosis with management.
Severe Food Allergies
Managed for 7+ years on a strict hydrolyzed protein diet. Even a small amount of the wrong food causes severe GI distress. No exceptions — no treats, no table scraps, nothing outside her prescribed food.
Heart Murmur
Grade I murmur (mild, known and monitored). Cardiac biomarker (Cardiopet) within normal range at 854 (ref. 0–900). No cardiac enlargement seen. Walks kept short and low-intensity.
Vision Decline
Age-related. Managed with OcuGLO vision support (vet-recommended). She moves more carefully now — fully normal for 14 years old.
Digestive Sensitivity
Chronic. Softer stools are her normal baseline — not a concern. Tylosin (dinner only) supports GI health. Very watery stools or vomiting = call the vet.
Polyuria / Polydipsia
Drinks and urinates more due to reduced kidney concentration. Indoor accidents are medical, not behavioral — never scold her. Potty breaks every 2–3 hours.

nutrition
What she eats.
Seven years of dietary stability on a hydrolyzed protein diet, then a careful transition in early 2026 to a kidney-supportive formula. Stability first — always.
Nine & Line Advanced Kidney Care · Lamb
since march 2026 · 110g × 2 daily · ~277 kcal/day
How it works: Pre-portioned into small containers, stored frozen. Thaw in fridge ~3 days ahead. Flip container directly onto metal bowl — no warming, no water needed. Supplements pre-mixed in. She eats in ~15–20 seconds.
Prior food: Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein (canned, 390g) — used for 7+ years until the CKD transition in March 2026.
Dietary stability is the guiding principle. Transitions are slow and monitored. No surprise changes.

daily life
A day in her life.
5–7 am
Early wake-up
She whimpers → she's hungry. Breakfast: one container, flipped onto bowl, no warming, no Tylosin. After eating, she may go right back to sleep.
7–10 am
Dog park
Carried in sling bag to the park. Goes to work immediately — pees and poops almost on arrival. One bowel movement typical. Keep her away from big dogs and puppies.
4–6 pm
Afternoon outing
One more walk or potty trip. May poop 1–2 times. Grass works — just needs more patience than the park. Short, easy walk. Heart murmur means no strenuous exercise.
7–8 pm
Dinner
One container, flipped onto bowl. Add Tylosin — blue scoop, half full, sprinkled on top. Devoured in ~15 seconds.
8–10 pm
Bedtime routine
Last potty trip — usually just pees. Then: wipe four paws, wipe tear stains, wipe bottom, brush teeth. She sleeps in the bed. That's where she belongs.
