privacy · gmail-prefetch

A tool with one user: me.

gmail-prefetch (personal) is a small, private tool I built to read a narrow slice of my own Gmail for my own dashboards. It is not offered to anyone else. This page exists because Google asks every app that touches Gmail to publish one.

Who can use it

Only me, Kelvin Chen. The app (Google Cloud project huan-gmail-prefetch) is registered to my own Google account and connects to exactly one mailbox — mine. It is not offered to the public, there is no sign-up, and no one else's data is ever requested.

What it can access

Read-only access to Gmail (gmail.readonly). It cannot send, change, label or delete email. It runs a few fixed searches and looks only at the matching messages:

  • job-alert emails from LinkedIn;
  • food delivery and restaurant-reservation receipts (Uber Eats, DoorDash, Seamless, Grubhub, Resy, OpenTable).

What it keeps

A handful of parsed fields — for a job alert: title, company, location and the job link; for a receipt: the vendor, restaurant, items, totals and time. It never stores email bodies, snippets, names, street addresses, phone numbers or payment details. The parsed files live only in my private GitHub repositories and are deleted from the working copy after 14 days.

How it's used

Only to power my own private job-search and nutrition dashboards and the personal assistants I run for myself. Nothing is sold, shared, used for advertising, or used to train anyone's AI models. The only other parties involved are Google (the Gmail API) and GitHub (private storage and the scheduled job that runs the tool). The OAuth refresh token is kept as an encrypted GitHub Actions secret.

Use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Turning it off

Access can be revoked at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Revoking it stops all reads immediately.
